Bev Schofield reports that one of the England
teams playing in Poland
at the 7th midzynarodowy druynowy

turniej szachovy (a biennial event), has won the competition

against tough opposition.
The event in Poland was at a place called Jastrzebie Zdrj.

It is a 9 round, 4 board  competition for 34 teams representing

(mainly) eastern European cities.

The team was Dan Hall (Wilts), Vedantha Kumar (London),

Robbie Coats (Wilts) and Selina Khoo (Surrey). Playing as
'Liverpool' they beat Zilina, Orlova, Euroregion Slak Cieszynski,
Frydek-Mistek, Kijw and Tallin. They drew with Rowne (Ukraine)

and St Petersburg (number one seeds and defending champions).

They also finished ahead of other teams such as Minsk, Budapest,

Oslo and Koln.
They managed to do the double by also winning the football

competition!! with Miss Selina Khoo in goal. So Liverpool top

Europe again!  Having recovered from the shock the parents

now have the task of getting the mountain bikes they have each
won back from the airport this afternoon and sorting out the extra

payment to Easy jet for the shipping!

to all the juniors, particularly the Brown Jack contingent. This may be

 Feb 06

Bev Schofield reports there were good performances by club juniors

at the Wiltshire Schools Congress. Champions were as follows: U-11

Harry Cleeves, U-14 Jack Cleeves, U-18 Robbie Coats. Club juniors

also had a successful start to the new year. Harry Cleeves gained a

'half norm' for the U-11 England trial at the London Junior U-12

championships, but confirmed his place by winning the Wiltshire

Closed all-play-all, and gaining the Wiltshire nomination.  He made

doubly sure by winning the South of England U-11 championships

this month. Robbie Coats continued his outstanding season.  He

gained a half-norm for the National Junior Squad by coming joint

3rd in the London Junior U-16 Championships, then put in a winning

performance at the Horsham U-18's. This month he gained his second

half-norm for the squad at the English U-16 Closed championships

and can now expect to be called up for England duties abroad. He

joins fellow junior internationals at the club - Robbie Dams, Nicola

Thomas, Lewis Martin, Jack Cleeves, Daniel Chan and Josh, Dan

and Toby Hall. Daniel Hall won the English U-16 Closed
