Aug 05 Dan Hall had a very busy and successful fortnight at the Isle of Man British Championships. He impressively jointly won the British U-16 Championship & also won the U-15 trophy. Dan also finished 22nd in the British Championship. Josh Hall also impressed in the Major Open finishing 20th, including a draw with the Ukranian Master Peter Marusenko (rated 2344).
Jul 05 Josh Hall won the Major section of the Spectrum Chess 1st Cardiff Congress. Robbie Dams finished second.
Apr 05 At the 1st World School Chess Championship in Halkidiki Greece, (21st to 29th April) Dan and Toby Hall competed in the U-16 and U-14 sections respectively. They both played in their sections a 'year early'. Dan, despite the organisers failing to seed him properly, scored 5½/9 against strong opposition including countries such as Azerbaijan and India. Toby also did well to get 3½/9, playing against countries such as Ukraine and Germany.
At the U-16 National Junior Chess Squad Champs. three of the club's junior members played in Nottingham in this strong event. Lewis Martin and Robbie Dams both scored a hard-fought 3/6. Dan Hall scored an unbeaten 5/6, finishing as runner-up, behind Simon Fowler of Shropshire.
Mar 05 At the West of England Championships Dan Hall achieved a very good result in the Open section, finishing joint fifth on 4/7 and won a grading prize. Josh Hall played well in the Major section, finishing only half a point off the places with 4½/7. Toby Hall scored a creditable 4/7 in the U-125 section.
Mar 05 At the Blackpool Chess Congress Sarah Thomas played well to win a grading prize.
At the East Devon Congress David Tomboline was joint winner of the U-150 section.
Feb 05 At the Kidlington Congress Lewis Martin was joint winner of the U-125 section with 4½/5. Nicola Thomas was joint fourth with 4/5. Josh Hall was fourth in the U-170 section, only half a point behind the joint winners on 4/5. He won the U-155 grading prize. Josh, Lewis, Nicola and Sarah Thomas won the £40 team prize with 15/20. Robbie Dams scored 1½/5 in the U-170 and Dan Hall scored 2/5 in the U-225 section.
At the Wilts. & West of England Junior Championships Lewis Martin finished equal first in the Major section, becoming both Wiltshire and West of England U-18, U-16 and U-14 champion. Nicola Thomas finished Wiltshire U-18 girls champion. Robbie Dams won the Controller's Prize.
At the Jersey Chess Festival Josh Hall won an U-150 grading prize in the Major section.
Jan 05 Jack Cleeves gained his second half-norm in the U-12 Major at the London Junior Chess Congress. He has now been invited into the National Squad (joining six other Brown Jack juniors already in the Squad), and will represent England in Bulgaria in May. Robbie Dams will play for an England squad in Poland in February.
Dec 04 At the Bristol Open Chess Congress, held at Redlands Girls School, Nicola came joint first in the Intermediate (U-125) section, scoring 4/5.
Nov 04 At the Oxford University Rapidplay Josh Hall was joint first in the Major (U-150) with 4½/6. Dan Hall jointly won the U-175 grading prize in the Open with 3½/6.
At the U-15 National Youth Chess Association Event, Brown Jack juniors were 50% of the 12-man Wiltshire U-15 team which played at Solihull. Lewis Martin and Sarah Thomas played boards two and seven respectively. Nicola Thomas (board three) and Toby Hall (board five) both scored 2½/3, while Jack Cleeves (board six) and Dan Hall (board one) both scored 3/3. The team, although particularly young on average compared to other teams, managed to finish 6th out of 14.
Oct 04 At the Weymouth Congress Josh Hall won the overall junior prize with a score of 3½/5 in the Major. He finished only half a point behind the three joint winners.
Lewis Martin played in the Premier section of the English Deaf Association Annual Chess Congress. He scored 3½ and came 4th on tie Break.
At the Wiltshire 5-minute Championship Peter Richmond retained his title once more at the Brown Jack. Richard Haydon finished second with 5½/7. Dan Hall shared third place with local IM James Sherwin on 5/7.
At the West Wales Congress in the U-112 section Toby Hall finished 2nd with 4½/5. Sarah Thomas finished joint 3rd, and also won the U-88 grading prize.
Sep 04 At the Leek Chess Congress in the U-110 section Nicola Thomas finished joint 1st with 4/5 & joint winner of the 'Charlotte Atkins' ladies prize. In the U-80 section Sarah Thomas finished 3rd with 3½/5.
